Yesterday, I mentioned diving into some science stuff today, but work got in the way, so I will have to try to go there again tomorrow.
I had an interesting conversation with a random stranger when I was grocery shopping yesterday. His name was Larry, and he was sitting on a bench that I had to pass by on my way out. The bench happened to be next to the lotto machine, so I stopped and said hello while I was debating on buying a ticket. I decided to go ahead and get one, so I asked Larry to rub the machine for luck for me. I think he thought I was nuts…lol…but he did it anyway, and that led to some more interesting conversation with him. I enjoyed speaking with him, and I hope he also enjoyed our conversation. The best part is, that the ticket was a $15 winner, a big win for me! Now, I just have to hunt Larry down so I can give him his piece of the winnings!
That, and some things that happened today, inspired me to discuss kindness again. Not random acts of it, necessarily, but just being a kind person in general. With everything that is happening in the world right now, I believe it’s more important than ever that we be kind to each other. Kindness costs nothing, and can mean so much to the person who receives it.
It was brought to my attention today that I am different…lol. This is nothing new, I know that I am different than most people in many different ways, but today I had two of my vendors thank me for being kind.
The first thanked me for providing him with positive feedback. The man literally saved my ass last Friday, so of course I was going to thank him for his help. I was genuinely surprised though, when he said it was rare to get positive feedback. I have done business with these folks for over ten years now, and I cannot say that I have ever had a negative experience with them, so why wouldn’t other customers experience the same and say thank you?
The second time was at the end of the day today. I got a call from a gentleman who works for a different vendor, and he has been very unhappy there for a long time now. He is REALLY good at his job, and he doesn’t work for a great company, so I mentioned him to another vendor who was looking for good people to fill various roles a few years ago. Unfortunately, he had a non-compete clause in place that prevented the good vendor from hiring him at that time.
He was disappointed, but I am a cheerleader, so I have been nothing but supportive and positive for him though all of this. When he told me that the new company was concerned about the non-compete the first time around, I told him not to worry, it wasn’t the right time or the right position, but not to give up hope, because good things were coming for him, and now they have. The great company finally has a position available for him that won’t present a conflict of interest with his current position, and they offered it to him. He called me this afternoon to say thank you. He accepted the position and had just given his two weeks’ notice to his current employer.
I choose to be kind, because I believe that we should treat people the way that we would like to be treated, and I prefer kindness, but it is nice to hear that some people do appreciate it. Others, don’t, and that’s ok too…lol…I know that I can be a little bit much if you are in a bad mood and would like to wallow in it for a while, but that won’t stop me from being me, from choosing to see the glass half full, even when there is only a drop left in it, or from doing all that I can to lift you up when you are down. I wish that for everyone. It’s a beautiful way to move through life. So, I will continue to be kind to my vendors, to go out of my way to say hello to everyone I pass in the parking lot, and to spark up conversations with strangers in the grocery store, because you just never know when that might make someone’s day.
Much love to all of you, with Hope and Faith!
