Happy Friday All!

Welcome to the first Daily Discussion.  I have been thinking about what I wanted to start with, and an experience I had while at the grocery store this morning settled it for me.  Today, I would like to discuss random acts of kindness.

Today started early for me.  The guys are working about 45 minutes away from home, so we have been up by 4:30am every morning this week.  My phone normally does not ring that early, so when it rang at 5:30am this morning, and it was one of my guys, I was obviously concerned.  Fortunately, it wasn’t a true emergency.  He had somehow misplaced the key for one of the trucks when he got home last night.  He spent the better part of the night looking for it though, with no luck, so he was tired and frustrated.  It probably didn’t help when he heard my husband laughing in the background as I told him what happened…lol…but we were both truly relieved that a lost key was all that it was!

My guys, I love them.  In the midst of his mad hunt for the key, my guy had called the dealer at 10:30pm last night, to ask if they could make a key.  The dealer could, so off I went at 7:15am, in the 37 degree rain, to make the drive in to get a replacement.  It was a quick and easy fix, assuming the truck hadn’t been rekeyed.  The parts guy and I both had our fingers crossed that we were dealing with the original!

I was back on the road by 8:30am, in a part of town that I am not familiar with, and looking for a side street that would get me headed in the direction of a particular grocery store.  This store sells Bison ribeye, which Mr. Hope loves, and really awesome Sugar Bee apples (if you haven’t had them and can find them, do yourself a favor and try them), so I wanted to stop there, since it was only a few minutes out of my way.

I was driving down the road, minding my own business, following a local police officer.  We had just passed through a greenlight, crossing through a major intersection.  The road was four lanes wide, and I was looking to my right, for the road I needed to make a right turn onto.  Next thing I know, I hear a horn blowing to my left.  I looked over, and a school bus was there with its arm out.  I was mortified!  I was also sure that the police officer was going to flip his lights on to give me a ticket…lol…but he didn’t even tap his brakes.

I am still trying to figure out how it happened.  I don’t drive in city traffic often, and I am not familiar with the area I was in today, but it’s usually really hard to miss a school bus, with all of the yellow, and then red flashing lights, and I didn’t see a thing until I heard the horn.  I am wondering if the bus had planned to let the officer pass, so the driver didn’t have all of the lights going, assuming I would see the bus and stop anyway?  Regardless, I did not stop, and that is on me.

I am SO grateful that the only thing hurt are my feelings…lol…but I started kicking myself, thinking about all of the horrible things that could have happened, and how I could still end up getting a ticket for this.  Buses here can have cameras on the arms that capture offenders and then send tickets to them in the mail weeks or months after the fact.

Anyhow, I finally made it to the grocery store, and I was admittedly a bit distracted.  If this does result in a ticket, paying a couple hundred dollar fine will suck; but as a business owner, I am always thinking about the business. If I end up with points on my license from this, the auto insurance will likely go up.  I am already paying about $16,000.00 a year for my auto coverage (two pickup trucks, three big trucks, two trailers, four drivers, all with good driving records, and no accidents) and I cannot afford for that to go up more, because of my stupidity.

I turned down an aisle in my own little world, and this woman that was standing there browsing the soup said good morning to me.  I said good morning back, and figured that would be the end of it, but no, she started talking to me about Mother’s Day, like we were old pals…lol.  I responded with, ā€œI don’t know youā€, which was probably a bit rude, but I honestly had no idea who she was, or what she was talking about!

She took it all in stride though, and replied that she didn’t know me either, but wanted to wish me a happy Mother’s Day, if I was a mom.  We ended up having a nice conversation about four-legged children, since neither of us had the two-legged version…lol…and after a few minutes, I went on my way, feeling much lighter than I had when I first turned down the aisle.

I am my harshest critic, and once I get in my head, watch out!  It can and has thrown me off for days.  God knew that I needed to break that cycle before it could gain too much steam, so he threw this incredibly kind, random, stranger in my path, to provide me with a much-needed break from myself, and I am SO thankful for that!  We all need to show ourselves some grace.

I made an honest mistake… It wasn’t intentional and I wasn’t being careless. I was simply out of my element, and I should not waste several minutes/hours/days punishing myself for that mistake.  If and when a ticket arrives in the mail, I will deal with it to the best of my ability, but I will not give this mistake any more of my energy right now.

Instead, I am going to be grateful to God.  Grateful for the fact that no one was injured, and grateful for the kind woman who performed the random act of kindness for me this morning, when I so badly needed it.

Have any of you had an experience like this?  Has a random stranger ever started a conversation with you out of the blue, that in some way affected you in a positive way?

I always do my best to be kind to people. It is really easy to do with the people we know and love, like my guy when he called this morning, but today reminded me that I need to remember to be kind to strangers too.  I often say hello to people who then look at me like I have two heads…lol…but I cannot let that discourage me, because the next person that I say hello to might be having a morning like I had this morning, or worse, and that hello might be the thing that turns their day around too.

I challenge you to do the same.  Just imagine what a great place this would be if we were all simply kind to one another?

Back to the truck key.  I eventually made it to where the truck was parked, and guess what?  The key worked!!!  Add another item to the list of things to be grateful for today 😊.  My guy was happy to hear that the problem had been fixed, and if he doesn’t find the missing key this weekend, I will order a spare first thing next week, so no one has to lose another night of sleep over it…lol.

Much love to all of you, with Hope and Faith!

The power of positive thinking...

To start the week off on a positive note…lol…I want to talk about the power of positive thinking.  Different people use different terms for the same concept – positive affirmations and manifestation are two examples that come to my mind – but it’s all basically about keeping your vibrational frequency high, so you can attract like energy, and you can invite the good that you envision for yourself into your life.

I will try not to go too far down the rabbit hole today, we’ll save that for future discussions, but let’s establish one undeniable fact:

ā€œThe law of conservation of energy, also known as the first law of thermodynamics, states that the energy of a closed system must remain constant – it can neither increase or decrease without interference from the outside.  The universe itself is a closed system, so the total amount of energy in existence has always been the same.  The forms that energy takes, however, are constantly changing.ā€ (Moskowitz, 2014, para. 2).

We are energy....
